I thought literature review involved analyzing the findings of other people’s work. However, I have discovered that it also involves analyzing the theoretical and methodological approaches used by other researchers.Literature review only provides supportive information important for making a foundation for new research. It acts as an update of the level of knowledge on the topic so that the researcher can advance from there.I have done several literature reviews but the most interesting one was on the topic of managing family businesses. The process is challenging, time consuming and requires focus on the specific area of knowledge since important information is mixed up with irrelevant information. Organizing the important pieces of information from each author requires thorough understanding of the topic, focus, dedication, and experience.
