EGEN 324 ACC Working on Standards Based Grading Document Exam Practice Hello, I need your help because I’m doing a reassessment this is what the professor told me.
The reassessment procedure is listed on the SBG (Standards Based Grading) document on Moodle. For those three standards (which are listed in the Homework title), you need to submit a 5 minute video explaining the concept. The video can just be you staring at the camera talking or you can work one of the homework problems and explain the steps. Record yourself doing the problem. I am okay if you dont do it in English, I can get it translated.
Since these homework assignments were before we went to distance learning, Im afraid Im going to have to stick with the reassessment criteria. But this is the deal I will make with you, I want you to attempt one of them as a reassessment (submit a 5 minute video to me). If that creates undue hardship for you, then you can submit the homeworks and I will grade them as normal. But I want you to attempt the reassessment first.
Please let me know if you have questions.
so I need you to solve the 3 homeworks like the last 2 homeworks.
and choose one of the homeworks and try if you have a way to record a video while explaning the solution to me. EGEN 324 Applied Thermodynamics
HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT 2 Properties of Pure Substances
DUE: Thursday, FEBRUARY 6, 2020

conditions and sketch P-v and T-v diagrams, showing the location of each state.

P, kPa

2. A 10 L tank contains 0.1 L of liquid water and 9.9 L of vapor at 200 °C. What
is the quality? What if the temperature was 350 °C?
3. A H2O vapor is superheated by 5 °C at a pressure of 3.5 MPa in a piston-cylinder
device. As the vapor cools, the piston will drop until it hits a mechanical stop
when only liquid water remains. The system continues to cool until the water
reaches a temperature of 200 °C. What is the initial temperature? How much
volume of liquid water per unit mass does the cylinder hold? What is the
pressure and quality when the water reaches a temperature of 200 °C? Hint:
the process to cool the water to 200 °C is isochoric.

HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT 3 Energy, Work, and Heat
DUE: Tuesday, FEBRUARY 11, 2020
1. A ski lift has a one-way length of 1 km and a vertical rise of 200 m. The chairs
are spaced 20 m apart, and each chair can seat three people. The lift is
operating at a steady speed of 10 km/h. Neglecting friction and air drag and if
the average mass of each loaded chair is 250 kg, determine the power required
to operate this ski lift. Also estimate the power required to accelerate this ski
lift in 5 s to its operating speed when it is first turned on.
2. The figure shows an object whose mass is 50 lb attached to a rope wound
around a pulley. The radius of the pulley is 3 in. If the mass falls at a constant
velocity of 3 ft/s, determine the power transmitted to the pulley, in horsepower,
and the rotational speed of the pulley in RPM. The acceleration of gravity is g
= 32.0 ft/s2.
3. Water is being heated in a closed pan on top of a range while being stirred by
a paddle wheel. During the process, 30 kJ of heat is transferred to the water,
and 5 kJ of heat is lost to the surrounding air. The paddle wheel work amounts
to 500 N*m. Determine the final energy of the system if its initial energy is 10
kJ.

HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT 4 First Law of Thermodynamics
DUE: Tuesday, FEBRUARY 25, 2020
1. An adiabatic (no heat losses) air compressor is to be powered by a directcoupled adiabatic (no heat losses) steam turbine that is also driving a
generator. Steam enters the turbine at 12.5 MPa and 500? at a rate of
45 kg/s and exits at 10 kPa and a quality of 0.85. Air enters the compressor
at 98 kPa and 295 K at a rate of 12 kg/s and exits at 1 MPa and 550 K.
Determine the net power delivered to the generator by the turbine.
2. A piston-cylinder device initially contains 50 L of liquid water at 40°C and 200
KPa. Heat is transferred to the water at constant pressure until the entire liquid
is vaporized. What is the mass of the water? What is the final temperature?
Determine the total enthalpy change. Show the process on a T-v diagram with
respect to the saturation lines.
3. Argon in the amount of 0.6 kg fills a 0.05 m 3 piston-cylinder device at 550 kPa.
The piston is now moved by changing the weights until the volume is twice its
original size. During this process, argons temperature is maintained constant.
Determine the final pressure in the device.
