Research questions based on the different approaches that I have explored that seems most
appropriate for my research problem and purpose
For this research, the research approaches that I will explore and that seems most
appropriate to my research problem and purpose are the system theory and the ethnography
approaches. Hence, the research questions that guided this study are;
Ethnography approach
i.
How are blacks being charged and unfairly treated by police officers in America?
ii.
How do African Americans have a high likelihood of being the targets of severe
discrimination in the United States?
iii.
How do black Americans experience disproportionate contact with the United States’
criminal justice system?
System theory
i.
what are the issues that blacks are charged with unfairly by police officers in

discrimination in the United States?

Reasons why each approach would work
The abovementioned research approaches are the most appropriate approaches for the
research because of several reasons. The first reason is because the system theory requires focus
groups to facilitate dialogue of shared experiences and thus being in line with this research study
(Pallan et al., 2012). Secondly the ethnography approach will facilitate analytical examination

interview transcripts, and therefore ensuring that conclusions can be drawn from interviews
(Hernandez, 2015).
Identification of the Approach I Believe Best Fits the Research Question
The approach that I believe best fits my research question is the Ethnography approach.
With this approach, it would be easy to explore and provide a detailed analysis of social
interactions, processes, and systems.
Describe how the approach you selected will direct the procedures you will later develop
The ethnography approach will direct the procedures used in the research study by
dictating the data collection method, which include observation, surveys, interviews as well as
questionnaires. Additionally, the ethnography approach will dictate how interactions will occur
with research participants while collecting data. In particular, the approach will require the
research to live among the participants.
Summary of My Theoretical Framework
This paper is rooted in the ethnographic theory. Ethnography is a type of qualitative
research that produces in-depth accounts of various social phenomena based on data collected
through interviews, observations, and documentaries (Hernandez, 2015). As McCormack (2014)
opined, this theory focuses on creating sophisticated, yet detailed descriptions of those groups
that share a given culture.
There are a number of data collection tools that will be used to collect data during this
research. Key among them include interviews, questionnaires, focus group discussions,
document analysis as well as surveys.
