The organization I choose to use for my assignment is the Boys and Girls Club of the Central Savannah River Area, CSRA. I have tutored there off and on for years now and I know a couple of the leaders at the sites across the CSRA. The mission is to inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. To do this, it takes caring mentors, a safe, positive environment, and a wide range of quality programs developed to enable youth to reach their full potential. At Boys & Girls Clubs, we do #WhateverItTakes to build GREAT futures. 98% of our regularly attending Club members graduate high school on time, with a plan for their future. 76% of low-income Club members ages 12 to 18 who attend the Club regularly reported receiving mostly As and Bs, compared to 67% of their peers nationally. Boys & Girls Clubs of the CSRA is committed to changing lives. By measuring how much our Club kids and teens are achieving, we can show you what a difference your investment is making in our community. The theory I decided to utilize is the Leader–member exchange (LMX) theory. The Leader-member exchange theory takes still another approach and conceptualizes leadership as a process that is centered on the interactions between leaders and followers. According to Northouse (2019) LMX is implied that leaders treated followers in a collective way, as a group, using an average leadership style. LMX theory challenged this assumption and directed researchers’ attention to the differences that might exist between the leader and each of the leader’s followers. Working with children can be challenging and often many leaders are not aware of what all takes place in the one on one setting. Many leaders are tied up with the administrative and financial piece of running an organization that they are not 100% involved in the physical daily operations and have to rely on the interaction ad feedback of employees.
