Plato and Sophocles
1. Compare and contrast the competing notions of justice in The Republic to
Antigone.
2. Compare the argument methods and characters in The Republic to the
argument methods and characters in Antigone. Please choose a select
number of characters and be specific.
3. Plato uses many myths, analogies, and other literary devices to explain his
philosophy. Please briefly name three of them, and explain the significance
of at least one in detail. Why is the use of literary devices unusual in Plato?
Why, in your opinion, does Plato use this method to express his ideas?

6. Asimov’s short story “Reason” in I, Robot contains many Cartesian themes.
Please interpret the short story using Descartes’ Meditations I, II, and III.
Please use quotes from both texts to demonstrate your points. Does Asimov
support or call into question the methods and results of Descartes’ thought
experiment? Explain.

essay to interpret/analyze Sartre’s “The Wall”.
8. Jealousy has adopts and challenges many structuralist ideas. Please write an
