I don’t understand this Music question and need help to study.
Watch all three senate hearing videos featuring Frank Zappa, Dee Snider, and John Denver.
-citing specific ideas from the three videos:
-This should become a lively discussion/debate about Free Speech and the First Amendment:
-Due to the potential political nature of the topic, please Keep it civil and respectful!!!
-Do you feel that the labeling of records is an over-reach of the government authority, or do you feel it’s an appropriate step (much like the movie rating system)?
-There are valid arguments to be made for all sides of this topic.
-I am a huge advocate for FREE SPEECH!!! I am a fan of humans spitting out every stupid thought in their heads.
It reads as follows:
Parents Music Resource Center (PMRC)
-In 1985, Tipper Gore (wife of future Vice President, Al Gore) led a commission to deal with the vulgar nature of modern pop and rock music:
-the PMRC put pressure on the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA):
-demands were made to put warning labels on albums that had content deemed offensive: -In August, 1985 the RIAA agreed to label albums with a warning sticker:
-naturally, many recording artists were upset with this form of censorship:
-Senate hearings were held in sptember, 1985:
-three artists testified against the Senate to defend the artists’ freedom of expression:
-Frank Zappa, Dee Snider, and John Denver
