What was going on at the site today:
I went back again to my business class to help Ms. Wasson.
What I did to contribute to the work going on:
I was helping the students to do the homework, and now I feel that I have a really good
relationship with the students because when I enter the class all of them ask me how to
do that. I feel very comfortable with them. Ms. Wasson actually needed someone to
print paper for the students. It was a quiz for them, so I was watching them do quiz and I
was grading the quizzes for her.
What I learned about urban schools:
I discovered that teachers need assistant in their class. Because I went to a different
class the other day, it was an art class. Their teacher needed a help, so I helped her in
the class. The thing that really stood up for me that she was all around the place. She
wanted to do a lot of things at the same time. After we finished the class, she was
thanking me for the help. I was really happy.

Why the teachers are suffering with classes and students?

What was going on at the site today:
It was a homecoming event in RFL High school.
What I did to contribute to the work going on:
We helped the staff to organize the homecoming event. We helped with the games,
and I contact with one of the students there who wants to enter Towson University.
What I learned about urban schools:
They are trying to make the school a place to study. Also, for having fun. Which is
something I really like.
Questions/problems/issues:
One problem happened that day. That nobody is obeying the orders that staff are giving
them. It was a little unorganized.

What was going on at the site today:
Kiena and me and Mrs Smith were talking to couple students about a trip they planned
for.
What I did to contribute to the work going on:
I gave them some advices to how to organize a trip, how to select the students. I told
since it is only 80 student, they have to take the best 20 from each grade.
What I learned about urban schools:
I Learned from urban schools that the building is very old and not clean like other
school. That shows me that they do not care about how clean the school. Because if the
outside was clean and good. It presents the school and people will take a good idea
about this school.
Questions/problems/issues:
The only issue I have that how people do not care about how the school should be. It
has to be in a good structure to make the school have a good repetition.

Community Schools
In the US a lot of students go to community schools for an education. According to the book
Community schools by Joanne Ferrara, Reuben Jacobson, Foreword by Jeannie Oakes. Ferrara
and Jacobson go to schools throughout the country to discuss the various roles that make this
collective reform of education work. The book provides educators, politicians, family members,
youth and local leaders with a better understanding of the different roles and strategies for
change that make up a community school. Based on years of practice, study and continuing
change, community schools are a creative, successful and grassroots approach for bringing
together schools and communities to enhance student, family and community outcomes. The
transformation of education is rising as the school site, local and state leaders are finding
innovative solutions the most pressing problems in community schools. The members, experts
in the area, represent a diverse group pf people with deep contributions to the community
school strategy. This book shows how together they are.
The thing that stood up for me is the majority of students are black or Latin in
community schools.

We were helping the staff for a party.
What I did to contribute to the work going on:
We moved the griller, and I was helping with the grilling. The others were doing
activates for the students. I was putting the hotdogs in the bread and wrapping them.
What I learned about urban schools:
They were trying to do activates for students and make it so fun for them.
Questions/problems/issues:
The question I have that how the managed to do all of this.
