Grading Rubric –Describe Your Favorite Place Paragraphs

30%        Using at least four senses to describe a place

• Specific descriptions using sight, sound, touch, smell and taste (if possible) to describe your favorite place. If fewer than four senses are used, 10% is deducted for every missing type of description.

20%        Using Coordinating Conjunctions (use at least TWO different coordinating conjunctions)

• Three sentences correctly use coordinating conjunctions to join two independent clauses (complete sentences), and correctly use commas in those sentences. Review Chapter 17 for instructions on how to do this.

40%        Using Subordinating Conjunctions (use at least TWO different subordinating conjunctions)

• Two sentences correctly use subordinating conjunctions at the beginning, with a comma in the correct location (before the independent clause/complete sentence). Review Chapter 18.
• Two sentences correctly use subordinating conjunctions in the middle, between two independent clauses, with no comma. Review Chapter 18

10%        Eliminating Fragments/Run-ons

• Two fragments OR run-ons are allowed. Any number over two results in 5% per fragment/run-on being deducted from the total percentage points for this category.
