UD Dealing with Psychological Disorders & Imitation Exercise Discussion Must be thoughtful and thorough, put your best college perspective into these assignments.
1. All Think Pieces (TP) must be at least 500 words long. If you upload a TP that is less than 500 words, I will send it back to you with a zero and you’ll have two days to revise/complete it. There is a limit to how many times I will do that; please see the syllabus.
PROMPT:
In several Think Piece prompts I give you this semester, I will provide a quote and ask you to reflect on it by either trying to understand it, trying to apply it to your own life, trying to apply it to this moment in our collective time, or doing some combination of those things. What I would like to see is a thoughtful, well-written piece that might not be perfect, but where I, the reader, can follow what you are doing, where you are going, and what you are saying.
Here’s today’s quote:
What we perceive as limitations have the potential to become strengths greater than what we had when we were normal or unbroken when something breaks, something greater often emerges from the cracks.
This think piece is through the eyes of me. I want this to be about my life. I am a 21 year old male senior in college who is diagnosed with OCD, anxiety, and A.D.H.D. I want this to be about my life as school as always been a challenge for me. I want this to be about how the limitations of these things over time, trial, and experience, have become something greater. How I use this as motivation when I go to the gym and exercise more or I go to office hours because of my ADHD I know I need to work harder than everyone else. If you have any questions on this, let me know.

THE FOLLOWING PASSAGE HAS 377 WORDS. WITHOUT CHANGING THE MEANING AND PURPOSE OF THE PASSAGE, CUT IT DOWN TO 125 WORDS OR FEWER.
A large number of people enjoy watching crime shows like Law and Order and true Crime shows such as Forensic Files regularly. As a rule, these people are not themselves murderers, thieves, or criminals, nor would these people really ever enjoy seeing someone commit an actual crime, nor would most of them actually enjoy trying to solve an actual crime. They probably enjoy watching these crime shows because of this reason: they have found a way to escape from the monotonous, boring routine of dull everyday existence.
To such people the mystery or crime is realistic fantasy. It is realistic because the people in these crime shows are as a general rule believable as people (especially true crime TV) . They are not just made up pasteboard figures; some of the fiction shows are actually based on real scenarios in the current news. The shows are also realistic because the character who is the hero, the character who solves the murder mystery, solves it not usually by trial and error and haphazard methods but by exercising a high degree of logic, reason, and forensic science. It is absolutely and totally essential that people who enjoy these crime mystery shows have an admiration for the human faculty of logic.
But the mysteries are also like fantasies. Even in a true crime show the real case is dramatized, compressed, and made to feel suspenseful. The people who watch these shows sort of play a game. It is a game in which they suspend certain human emotions. One of these human emotions that they suspend is pity. If the reader stops to feel pity and sympathy for each and every victim that is killed or under suspicion or if the reader stops to feel terrible horror that such a thing could happen in our world of today, that person will never enjoy watching this type or genre of show. The devoted viewer of crime TV shows keeps uppermost in mind at all times the goal of arriving through logic and observation at the final solution to the mystery offered in the episode. It is a game with life and death. Whodunits hopefully help the reader to hide from the hideous horrors of actual life and death in the real world

Imitation Exercise
This exercise in imitation is meant to pique your attention to language and the interesting ways that writers use words, syntax (sentence structure), tone, etc. Sometimes our writing voices are influenced by the things that we read. I am giving you license to be influenced.
Below Ive provided four paragraphs from writers. Each is followed by a topic. Please choose two of these paragraphs and rewrite them about the topic right after the passage. Try to imitate the writers voice: tone, syntax, structure. This does NOT mean that you should simply use the same words or prepositional phrases only substituting the topic I provided. Really try to imitate the voice of the writer, notice the nuances in every sentence, the order of the sentence, the tone, etc. I’ve chosen ways to rewrite these passages based on some of your interests.
The date escapes me. At what point did women in America become victims? Exactly when did females, who are, after all, the majority in this country, forget how to tell pathetic and sexually clumsy men no? At what point did we give up our drive for equality, let out a collective whine and ask the government for special help? Probably about the same time we stopped calling men who employed tactless sexual come-ons harmless jerks and began calling them criminals. (Judy Jarvis, author)
Rewrite with the topic: the contemporary college student.
In America, during the past century or so, we have expected worthy writing to come from the margins of the psyche, of the community, of stranger in strange lands, uprooted, lonely and lorn. We have often taken moodiness, madness, or suicide to be evidence of genius. We have celebrated the Avant Garde, as though writers were soldiers. We have praised the cutting edge, the experimental, the new, as though literature were a kind of technology. We have assumed that talent would either be born on the coasts or be drawn to them, toward the shining Atlantic or Pacific, away from the dark interior. (Scott Russell Sanders, author)
Rewrite with the topic: contemporary music.
For Marx, then, the base of any society consists of the economic forces that regulate the consumption, production, and distribution of goods and services. Once these factors are in place, a superstructure such things as laws, politics, jurisprudence, art, morality, and religion can emerge. But none of these exists independently of the base, nor can anyone effect substantial societal change merely by manipulating superstructural elements. The components of the superstructure all rest on, and are therefore ultimately constrained by, economic realities. (Mike Austin, author)
Rewrite with the topic: student government.
Social Security, formerly the third rail of American politics, has now been trod upon, in rather dramatic fashion, by George W. Bush. Given that the maneuver is both stupid and unnecessary, one must ask why. After all, the programs alleged deficiencies, if there are any, will not manifest themselves until at least 2018. This is not quite the same as worrying about the suns eventual collapse into a black hole, but for most politicians a problem that lies thirteen years in the future is nearly the same thing. Clearly all is not what it seems. (Mike Hudson, author)
Rewrite with the topic: global warming. Cause

Summary Paragraph for risk identification
Risks were identified based on different categories such as business risks, opportunities, implementation
risks, cost risks, resources risk, and resources risks. Additionally, risks were identified based on the criteria
of each phase involved in the project. Some of the key phases which were involved in the process include
technology selection phase, communication phase, as well as the templates uploading phase. During the
process of risk identification, determining the cause, condition and consequence of the risks was effective.
A necessary change in future would be using a scale or tool to measure the impact of the risk.
