The Creativity Post

The purpose of this forum is to discuss creativity in everyday life and give students the opportunity to develop their critical thinking skills.

Click on the link above and select the one article from the CREATE category that relates to you.

Put the title of the article and author’s name at the top of your post. Put it in bold print.
Paragraph 1: (10-15 sentences) Briefly describes the main ideas. Give examples. What conclusions does the author make? Use your own words. No quotes or lists.
Paragraph 2: (10-15 sentences) Give your opinion and evaluation of the ideas presented in the summary. Do not add additional information, comment on what you already stated in the summary. Use your critical thinking skills and put some thought and reflection into your response. Evaluate the ideas. Give your opinion about what were the best points? What were the weak points? Explain why. Were there any relevant ideas that the author failed to discuss? Why did you select this topic? Discuss how the ideas relate to you and your life experiences. Give examples. How can you incorporate these ideas into your life? Use first person statements. We want to hear your opinion. For example: “I selected this article because… I think the author’s best ideas are….because…I think the weak points are…because…These ideas are relevant to me because, etc.

Format:

DO NOT DUPLICATE THE SAME SUBJECT AS ANOTHER STUDENT’S POST.
USE THE TWO PARAGRAPH FORMAT: APPROXIMATELY 10-15 SENTENCES EACH PARAGRAPH
USE YOUR OWN WORDS: No lists or bullet points or quotes.

Put the AUTHOR AND TITLE IN BOLD PRINT AT THE TOP OF YOUR POST

TOTAL WORD COUNT OF ENTIRE POST: 350-450 Check the word count before you submit.

Replies:

After submitting your post, review and comment on TWO other student’s posts. Each reply should be a paragraph with 100-125 words. Include thoughtful comments that specifically relate to the ideas presented in the post. DO NOT simply agree and summarize or quote the post. Give your opinion of the topic. Or, offer an alternative perspective on the topic. In your opinion, what was the best point made in the post? Explain why. We want to know your perspective on the topic based on your knowledge and experiences. Generic comments like: Wow, that’s interesting or Thanks for sharing do not count towards the minimum requirement.

Please note: Your reply should be original and express your opinion. Read the other replies before you post yours. Do not restate another student’s reply. Give your comments about the original post. You will need to offer your opinion or give a new perspective on the topic. Reply to a different post if another student has already stated what you were going to say. Redundant replies will be downgraded.

Grades: This is your class participation grade. Posts and replies are graded on quality and full credit is not automatic. Each post will be assessed in terms of the quality of information and examples, and the level of analysis and thoughtful reflection on the topic. Posts will be downgraded for the following reasons: not on the assigned topic, does not follow assignment format or word count instructions; does not provide specific information and examples; does not demonstrate a high level of analysis and reflection; duplicates another student’s post; or contains spelling, grammar or punctuation errors. Plagiarism: Any instances of copying and pasting from an internet source will result in a zero score. Use your own words. Paraphrase what you learned from the author.
