UMUC Charismatic Leaders Against Stress Appraisal And Job Performance Discussion 1) In the film, a lot of the people are seen smoking and drinking. Both of these actions are common among people dealing with stress and need and escape. Also, people seem to turn to gangs in order to have a sense of purpose and/or replace the family that they do not have.
I do believe age has a factor in how they react to the stressors of their environment. The older generation depicted in the film seem to have become accustom to the stressors and have found their way to cope. The young adult age group seems to be affected the most mentally. Some stress about how to get out of the current situation an others sway. They are at the stage where their decision will start to shape the rest of their life.
The parent I have chosen is Tres father Furious. Not much is known about his relationship with Tres mother but, she was able to call him to help with Tres situation. The relationship that Furious has with Tre is as a mentor. My favorite scene is when furious is talking to Tre and his friend about the billboard and other join to listen. Another is when Tre has a gun seeking to get revenge for Rickys death and his father talks him down and embraces him. That scene shows how much Furious loves his son and the fact that Tre gave him the gun shows that he respects him.
2) The film displays a lot of people who can be viewed smoking and drinking. In todays society, humans use that to deal with the externalizing and internalizing issues that they deal with in their everyday lives. In turn with all the underlying day to day issues, they can then turn to other things that might help bring focus for their lives. Even if though those very things might lead them in the wrong direction.
The problems faced by the children during their childhood are of two types; externalizing and internalizing issues. The specific concerns that children show rely on upon an assortment of variables, including the child’s temperament, age, and sex. The older generation in this movie who have been around have been doing the same thing for so long, that they just continue to do what they do because that is all they know. They have not found that way out or have not chosen to find that way out. I could be wrong on that last statement. The teens in this movie do have a choice on what direction their lives can take. There can be blow back for wanting to make a better choice or they could just choose the same life as the older generation.
Furious Styles wants his son to be successful in mainstream America, but Tres best friends both represent the culture from the hood. Tre is responsible. Furious raised him to be smart and consider his options. The film spends a lot of time ruminating on the importance of a responsible father in a boys life. But whats important to note is that Tre makes his own conscious choices in the absence of direct adult involvement.
3) In the movie Boyz N Tha Hood the two primary families that are depicted are very different in their make up and the way they handle outside stressors. The makeup of these families has quite an effect on how they handle the poverty and current situation they are in. For instance, the main character Tres family is made up of himself and his father who both end up valuing education and have a distinct moral code. Instead of succumbing to the crime and drugs in their environment Tres father joined the army and wanted to make a better life for himself and his future son instead. In turn he instilled these values in Trey from a young age. On the other side of the fence lies Ricky and Darrin a.k.a Doughboy a pair of brothers who live in the same neighborhood as Trey with their single mother. From the beginning of the movie you can tell that the way Rick and Doughboys mother speaks them and raises them is not in an encouraging way. From the beginning of the movie you see that she talks down to her children and even slanders them. In Ricky and Doughboys house what seems to be the only way out or handling the poverty and stress is either by joining the gangs and violence or in Rickys case through sports specifically football. As well in their house birth control was clearly not advised or at least not made a priority like Tres family. More or less it appears that the families are quite the opposite of each other in the way that they handle their situation.
In my opinion I do believe the age and sex of the children affected how they reacted to stress. I think at a younger age the children are molded by the stress of their lives and current surroundings making the scenario their normal. Also, once they reach the ages of young adulthood it seems for the men that they start to let their hormones get the best of characters in this movie. While there are some signs of the female characters acting in similar fashion in this movie but its not like there are a ton of female characters in this movie to use as a case scenario.
Ive chosen Jason Furious Styles as the parent for this question. In the case of furious his relationship with Tre his son is that of a mentor and leader. He also provides more of a nurturing parenting technique where he doesnt necessarily dictate all of Tres actions but looks to provide guidance and understanding and then let him make his own decision. You can also tell throughout the movie that there is a mutual respect between the two. He knows that in the last seven years of raising his son on his own that he has taught his son everything he needs to know to be a man and has confidence that he will make the right choices with his life.
