Solve for the general solution of the time-dependent Schrodinger’s Equation.
o Hint: ?(x, t) = ?(x)*????(t).
o The goal is to find the functional form of ????(t)
o Simply take a picture or scan in the hand-written work, neat writing is important for the
grade. Extra Credit is given to anyone who types this part, I suggest try using LaTeX.
Solve the time-independent Schrodinger’s Equation for the Infinite Potential Well with the
potential energy, V = 0.
o Show all mathematical steps and describe why you are doing certain things to solve for
the problem.
o It is okay to simply follow along from the lectures, but I still want you to solve every step
neatly by hand.
o Simply take a picture or scan in the hand-written work, neat writing is important for the
grade. Extra Credit is given to anyone who types this part, I suggest try using LaTeX.
Calculate and Plot the time-independent Wave-function solution and the Energy Solution for n =
1, 2, 3, and 4.
o Use Python to create functions and in a 1D xy plot show the wave-function solution.
Overlay the plots with an offset or different colors to represent each level in one plot.
o Create a function to calculate the energy based on n, and print the result.
o Make sure to label the plots
o Save the entire file as a .ipybn file
Provide 2 examples of what an infinite potential well could be representing in a real-world
material context. Be sure to explain your answer in complete sentences.
Provide a typed write-up with a cover page. Along with a write-up with all the solutions and
work. Label images and figures.
Turn-in two items:
o The write-up with the calculation work, coding outputs, and cover page.
o The .ipynb file with all the code
Hint: Reference Material for Topic 2 will help with the differential equations, also we will be going
over the first steps to solve the problem in class, so take notes.
