The goal of this assignment is to encourage students to research a current professional issue,
role, or scope of practice related to nursing. Acceptable journals are those published ideally
within the last five years. Approved nursing journals may include the following: American
Journal of Nursing, Nursing Research, Image, Nursing Outlook, Nursing 2019, Journal of
Psychosocial Nursing, Nursing Standard, RN or any specialty journal. Medline and CINAL
are two possible search engines. These types of articles must include an abstract background
literature, problem statement, data collection and data analysis. If there is a question as to the
legitimacy of a journal, please discuss it with your lecturer.
A copy of the article must be submitted with your paper. Papers submitted without an article
will not be graded. Any and ALL late papers (within 7 days) will be marked down 10%.
Hard Copy of Paper must be submitted to instructor.

Read an article from an appropriate nursing journal focusing on a nursing role, professional
issue, or scope of practice. Reference the information utilizing the format recommended by
the American Psychological Association (APA). Type a one to three (1-3) page paper
reviewing and summarizing the nursing role or issue. If you are focusing on the nursing role
discuss the knowledge and training needed for this role. Describe how the nurse utilizes the
nursing process to care for the patient. If reporting on an issue or scope of practice make sure
to include the viewpoint of author, discuss how the research was conducted and include
supporting research data and summarizes how the findings can be used to impact nursing
practice. Include your reflections about the material covered in the article.
