Create a PowerPoint or Prezi presentation of 15-18 slides on effective differentiation of reading
instruction for various grade levels, exceptional learners, culturally diverse learners, and English
language learners.
Your presentation should cover the following topics at a minimum:
1. Explain the concept of “differentiation” as it relates to middle and secondary reading
a. Provide insight into the role of the teacher and the learner in differentiation.
b. Provide an overview of how English language arts teachers can differentiate
content (what is taught), process (how it is taught), and product (how learning is
demonstrated or measured) (Tomlinson and Allan).
2. Provide strategies and explanations demonstrating how a teacher can differentiate reading
content, process, and product (including assessments) for each of the following groups:
a. various grade levels
b. exceptional learners (gifted students and students with special needs who have an
IEP and receive accommodations)
c. culturally diverse learners
d. English language learners.
A title/name/date slide and an MLA Style List of Works Cited slide are required. Use graphics
and color schemes to make your presentation attractive. The presentation should be organized
with headings, descriptions, bullets, etc.
Keep the slides clean and uncluttered. Use PowerPoint’s slide notes feature to add depth to each

Success Center, for additional guidance on completing this assignment.
While MLA format is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is
expected, and documentation of sources should be presented using MLA formatting guidelines,
which can be found in the MLA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.

become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.
