This article states the different racial experiences and disadvantages Mexican Americans
go through and experience. Most of the Mexican Americans have been racialized
throughout U.S. history and have too much limitations in society. A study from the
Mexican American study project collected data based on a survey of Mexican Americans
in Los Angeles that appeared that darker Mexican American experience more
discrimination. This article examines how they lag in education and economically
because of the racial treat they receive. It states how Mexican Americans are rarely
treated as whites, how they are considered as indegenous looking, and is why they are
being discriminated very much. This source contains a lot of information in how
Mexicans are being discriminated, and the different studies that collects data about
children and adults being interviewed about their ethnicity and so on. All of this is good
information that would be used in my essay.

Khan Academy, Khan Academy, www.khanacademy.org/humanities/us-history/thegilded-age/american-west/a/apush-chinese-immigrants-and-mexican-americanswestward-expansion.
To begin, this article talks about how the Mexican Americans in the southwest have tried
to become American citizens but unfortunately, they have been marked as a second class.
They have been facing discrimination since the end of the Mexican American war which
made them lost their land to white settlers. This article states how Mexican Americans
were offered the worst pay jobs under the worst working conditions. It gives information
how they would work as slaves, and how the whites would take the most mining tasks,
giving the hardest to the Mexican Americans. In other words, being racist giving them the
worst jobs because of their race. It also states how they would find themselves
outnumbered, outvoted, and outcast, prodiving them with no opportunities in society.
This article contains information on how the Mexican Americans started to face racism,
how they would not get any privilege in anything, moreover, this would be of good use
for my essay.

This source states that 25 percent of the American workforce was unemployed, and how
Mexican workers were no longer employed. It talks about how racist the whites would be
fearing that illegal aliens were taking away jobs from them. Due to this, the
government started to deport many illegal immigrants back to Mexico. This source also
talks about how the Census Bureau began to classify Mexican Americans as a separate
race. How they would not be eligible for the U.S. citizenship and how their entry was
illegal to United States. It states how little by little the Americanization of Mexican
Americans started to increase. This article will be utilized to demonstrate how they
started to protest to be classified as whites too and be given their rights.
Diaz, Joy. Mexicans Used To Think Racism Was A U.S. Thing. Not Anymore. KUT,
This website starts off how race in the United States is put into concept either as white or
black. It explains how the European influence was the start of racism, one that has not
been acknowledge right. It states how some people have been racialized when being
interviewed for a job, saying that they are so dark skinned and that they do not meet their
profile. This article says how race should not matter at all, how there is only the human
race. This article gives good examples on how people everyday are being discriminated
by being dark skinned that would be a good use for my essay.
This article is a summary of how the Mexican Americans are excluded from much of the
scholarship on civil rights history. This article talks about the different cases involving
Mexican Americans and desegregation as in Mendez vs Westminster, the first federal
case that involved school segregation of Mexican Americans. It also states the force
separation of Mexican Americans children from their white peers in schools. It explains
how the whites were the ones that laid the start of segregation in schools, racially
discriminating the Mexican Americans. This source contains a lot of information how the
Mexican Americans were segregated in schools, the different cases of segregation that
occurred, moreover, good information that would be for use in my essay.
OLDEN, DANIELLE R. .. Becoming Minority: Mexican Americans, Race, and the Legal

48, no. 1, Jan. 2017, pp. 4366. EBSCOhost, doi:10.1093/whq/whw197.
This school article talks about how schools in Denver Colorado segregation would have,
how Mexican Americans and black students would be assigned to different classrooms,
away from the whites. This article states that the whites are superior, saying that the
Mexican Americans are low than them. This source also talks about how they would be
described as being lazy and dirty, certainly not as the same as the Anglos/whites. This

segregated in education, and how would be discriminated.

ENGL 2351 E01
June 11, 2020
The topic that I choose for this research paper is Racism in the Mexican American
culture. The issue with racism is that most Mexican Americans have limitations in society,
feeling less privileged than whites. Mexican Americans have the most disadvantages and limits
in education, where they are not able to have many educational opportunities as the other. They
are constantly racialized mostly by whites, moreover, they tend to become excluded from
gaining full U.S. citizenship.
Furthermore, this has been constantly an issue to Mexican Americans because other
people, mostly whites do not see Mexicans as white or black but rather of being not white and
more indigenous looking. On the other hand, some of the possible sources that I will be using for
this paper are:
Ortiz, Vilma, and Edward Telles. “Racial Identity and Racial Treatment of Mexican
Americans ” Race and Social Problems, U.S. National Library of Medicine, Apr. 2012,
