ART202 Phoenix Virtual Adoration of Magi & Adoration of The Shepherds Paintings Analysis There are 3 tours that you must go on. Go on each tour and write a journal entry for each. (You should have 3 journal entries). Based on the prompt for each Virtual Tour, compose a journal entry of at least 400 words. The journal entry must contain at least 1 academic citation (this does not include the tour, the Bible, or the textbook, NO WEBSITES) in current MLA format.
Virtual Tour and Journal Entry 1: “Today a Savior has been born to You” The Uffizi Galleries’ paintings on the Nativity and Epiphany
Today a Savior has been born to you The Uffizi Galleries’ paintings on the Nativity and Epiphany
In this chapter you will learn how artists use iconography, symbols, history, and the Bible in their artworks. This tour focuses on paintings of the Nativity and Epiphany. Look carefully at the images and read the “wall text” (information) and you will see the differences in the ways artists from the Northern countries depict these scenes from the way Italian artists visualize the subject.
JOURNAL ENTRY PROMPT:
Choose 2 images – One from a Northern Renaissance painter and one from an Italian Renaissance painter.
Compare/Contrast the iconography used by each artist as they depict this Biblical event.
Read your textbook carefully, as it has all the answers. If you have any difficulties figuring out the differences, you might consider doing a google search for “northern vs southern renaissance art.”
Virtual Tour and Journal Entry 2: The Mona Lisa, Renaissance Masterpiece

The website is easy to navigate, but if you need help, detailed instructions at the end of this document.
ABOUT THE PAINTING:
The Mona Lisa is represented beauty during the Renaissance, but today, she is indicative of the phenomenon of “celebrity” for the sake of “celebrity.” Everyone knows the Mona Lisa, she has risen to cult status. What may surprise you is that the painting is unfinished. In fact, when Leonardo died, the painting was still in his studio – he never gave it to the person who commissioned the painting (if it was even commissioned, that is up for debate).
So much mystery surrounds the painting: Who is this woman? A figure of the artists imagination? A wealthy patrons wife? A combination of both? The artists muse? We will never know…. Plus, the mysterious ethereal landscape that surrounds her – not typical of the Florence region in which the artist worked. Though, by the end of his life, he had moved to France to help build a chateau for the French King François I, so perhaps the landscape is an imagined compilation of Italy and France.
JOURNAL ENTRY PROMPT:
After you complete the tour, write a journal entry in which you discuss three of the most important things you learned from the tour. Choose one important aspect from each of the three sections of the tour: Observe, Understand, Compare. Make sure your entry is rich in detail and offers examples from the tour. In addition, you must cite an academic source that you used for further research. You can use the LUO library, or the bibliography found in the tour.

Virtual Tour and Journal Entry 3: Rembrandt and the Face of Jesus
Virtual Tour: Rembrandt and the Face of Jesus
Prompt: In his quest to revitalize Christian imagery, Rembrandt rejected the predictable majesty of traditional portrayals of Christ. He was interested in Christ the man himself, and how his family and the crowds to whom he preached perceived him. Discuss the following in your entry – use examples and details. You can copy the sections below and answer beneath each section if that will help you stay organized.
Describe what you see in the tour. Briefly discuss two examples of Rembrandt’s images of Christ.
How do Rembrandt’s paintings of Christ differ from earlier Christian imagery? Use at least one example.
Contemporary Connection: Do we still rely on Rembrandts images of Jesus today, or has the face of Jesus changed since the 17th century?
