DDBA8303 Northcentral Data Analysis Representation Hospital Cyber Security write a 3-to-4-page essay in which the following are addressed:
Identify an applicable data analysis technique that will be used to analyze the qualitative data. Include one of the following techniques in the discussion: open and/or axial coding, cross-case analysis, member checking, or other strategy (Refer to Module 4 Homepage and Background literature references for helpful content information.)
Develop a rationale and justification for the data analysis strategy selected. (Present a logical sequence of ideas to explain)
Analyze the qualitative data (be sure to include the two steps below, as well as other procedures as identified within the data analysis strategy):
Code the qualitative data and organize and present it in a Microsoft Excel sheet.
Create a matrix that categorizes the data.
As a culmination of data analysis, identify any patterns and themes that may exist among the data collected. Describe the findings. Do the findings answer the qualitative research question(s)?
Demonstrate understanding of context and purpose of the assignment by bringing all required elements (described above) to the discussion. Running head: CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK

Conceptual Framework
A conceptual framework in research entails the concepts, assumptions, theories, and
beliefs that surround a subject of study (Maxwell, 2004). As such, it is important in defining the
entire research approach and making variables visible. The framework is evident in Svensson &
Hansson (2016), article on mental health literacy and experiences of mental illness on
stigmatization and social distance. In this study, the authors conducted research on the effects of
mental health literacy and experiences of people with mental health issues on their stigmatization
behavior and the social distance they maintained with people with mental illness. As such, the
approach of this paper was a sequential approach in determining correlation and causality in the
highlighted variables. Overall, the study worked to bring out the central role of mental health
literacy.
The research problem of this study is the issue of stigmatization and the research question
seeks to find factors affecting it. The researchers identify that mental disorders are common in
the public and they may be a source of stigmatization and social distance. As such, the problem
central to this study is the issue of stigmatizing people with mental illnesses and disorders. The
research question of the research, although not explicitly-stated, revolves around the effects of
mental health literacy and experiences of mental illness on stigmatization. The researchers
sought to determine the factors that in previous research had shown a relationship with attitudes
towards mental illness and mental health. The research problem and research question align in
determining the way forward in reducing stigmatization surrounding mental illnesses.
The research problem and question align to the research methodology based on crosssectional study. According to Colorafi & Evans (2016), a cross-sectional study is an
observational approach to studying a population at a specific time. In this study, questionnaires

were used to study participants relation with mental health and illnesses and their mental health
literacy as well as stigmatization. Therefore, looking at the question of stigmatization and factors
involved in research, the methodology is appropriate for the problem at hand. As such, the
methodology seeks to investigate the current state of affairs among participants and how it may
be affecting their views as shown by the questionnaire. Overall, there is a good fit between the
methodology and the research problem.
The sample population used for this research was staff members in Swedish social
insurance agency, police, corrections, rescue, and recreation centers in Sweden. All members had
applied for the Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) project implemented in the country. The sample
contained 1027 individuals who were eligible participants and accepted to participate in the
study. Based on the stated sample characteristics, the sampling method used was purposive
sampling. Participants were recruited based on their sign-up for the MHFA project and also their
work as staff in the stated departments (Svensson & Hansson, 2016). This sampling approach
allowed researchers to obtain a sample which was similar in characteristics and experiences with
mental illness. It was also easier to reach the research participants.
Moreover, the research technique suited the methodology due to the convenience of
conducting the research and access to participants. The researchers mailed questionnaires to
participants and included reply envelopes (Svensson & Hansson, 2016). By doing so, they were
able to reach the research participants since they had their addresses. The purposive sampling
approach, therefore, allowed a cross-sectional study to be possible through the use of postal
media to reach participants in their areas of living. Since cross-sectional studies emphasize on
the need to collect evidence across different backgrounds at the same time, purposively sampling
staff whose access was easy through mailing aligned with the methodology of this study.

Moreover, the study by Svensson & Hansson (2016) aimed to investigate the
phenomenon of stigmatization based on mental health and illnesses. The attitudes of people
towards mental illness were expected to be influenced by their experiences with mental illness
and also mental health literacy. This theoretical approach defines the independent variables
which are experiences and also mental health literacy as well as the dependent variable which is
the attitudes towards people with mental illness. In addition to these variables, the qualitative
study aimed to determine any differences towards people with psychosis and those with
depression as well as any difference between men and women. As such, the central phenomenon
for study was the attitudes of the participants towards mental illnesses and mental health.
The data collection approach for this study was through questionnaires that were mailed
to participants and mailed back to researchers. The questionnaires included sociodemographic
factors and also their experiences with mental illness in their family or individuals health. The
questionnaires also looked into the attitudes of participants towards people with mental illnesses.
Generally, this data collection approach was effective in capturing information on attitudes
towards mental illnesses. More specifically, the strategy was effective in reaching the huge
number of participants in relatively the same time. Therefore, using questionnaires and including
the scoring aspects was effective for the methodology and also allowed effective approach to
cross-sectional study. Moreover, the study was time-saving as well as ensured confidentiality of
research participants.
The research design for this study is effective in qualitative studies of phenomenon and
effects of independent variables on attitudes towards stigmatization and mental illness.
Generally, the design was a qualitative cross-sectional study. This design is crucial in
determining the effects of ones past experiences on their attitudes. Using a qualitative approach

was also effective in determining the attitudes of individuals. For instance, the questionnaires
asked questions such as how willing the participant was to move next door to a person described
in a vignette as having psychosis (Svensson & Hansson, 2016). Such a question allows the
researcher to understand the attitude of the participant and relate it to the participants
experiences and status. The design, therefore, was effective in determining the effects and
correlation between independent and dependent variables.
Additionally, the conceptual framework for this study was a sequential approach to
understanding the central phenomenon and was appropriate for this study. A sequential
conceptual framework, according to Thompson (2014), presents causal paths between an
exposure and outcome and these are sources of hypotheses on the causal relationship. In this
study, the causal factors were determined as an individuals mental health literacy as well as their
exposure to mental illness in the past. The study clearly states the aim by explaining that this
study investigates some of the factors that in earlier studies have shown a relationship with
attitudes towards mental illness such as mental health literacy and personal contact with
individuals affected (Svensson & Hansson, 2016). This statement outlines the sequential
framework which previous studies may hypothesize as having a causal relationship between the
dependent and independent factors. As such, the framework fits the methodology and is
appropriate in understanding the central phenomenon being investigated in this research.
The study effectively applies a sequential conceptual framework in studying
stigmatization in mental illnesses and enhancing knowledge in the subject. The study utilizes a
qualitative cross-sectional design which is effective in reaching the research participants and
understanding their attitudes and opinions towards mental illnesses. Purposive sampling goes
along with the study methodology and hence provides a fitting sampling approach due to the

need to reach and access all participants at once. The framework based on sequential
organization of variables allows researchers to form a hypothesis on the causality of independent
variables on dependent variables based on the established correlation between the variables.
