ESSAY 2 Mass Shooting
On the 1st of October 2019, hundreds of family and friends of the Las Vegas
shooting incident gathered for a name reading and memorial of all those who passed away
on that fateful day (Meghan, 2019). It was heart-wrenching to watch people have their
hearts broken over a senseless act of violence. The event brought back memories of images
shared with the public after such events. Images of innocent people lying on the ground
drenched in their blood, injured children running everywhere looking for a safe place to
hide and so forth.
After these incidents, society now accepts that mass shootings are a big problem.
There is not a single set of causes of mass shootings. However, experts find the exposure to
violent games may be one of the motivating factors for mass shootings. The viewers may
feel inclined to try out the same and, in the process, conduct mass shootings (Leiner et al.,
2018). Another cause is the increase in the number of people with guns in America,
prompting them to exercise real action with their tools. The prevalence of extremist groups
with backward murderous ideologies is also another causative factor.
Although there is not only a single solution, the mass shooting may keep growing if
the access to guns are not stopped by enforcing legal and political changes to protect the
right of the citizens.
