Guidelines for Individual Project:
The purpose of the individual project is to apply concepts (key terms) from the text to one’s
experiences.
An illustration (example) of applying a key term from the text:
1. (Chapter 1) naturalistic observation: (def.) Observing behavior in real-world settings.
An example of naturalistic observation occurred many years ago when I was enrolled in a
Driver’s Education course while in high school. The instructor assigned each of us in the course
the task of observing the traffic patterns at a designated location for a few hours. I decided to
observe how many motorists came to a complete stop at a stop sign near my home. Although I
do not recall the precise results of my observation, I do remember a feeling of astonishment with
how often I saw motorists engaging in the “rolling” stop rather than a complete stop.
Requirements for this project (worth 100 pts. or 10% of final grade):
1. Type (font size 10, 11 or 12 and single-spaced or double-spaced with 1 inch margins) twentyfive original examples of applying key terms from the text to your experiences.
2. No more than 2 key terms from any given chapter (there are 17 chapters to choose from).
3. Boldface or underline each of the 25 key terms and number (1-25) each example, including
the chapter where it’s located.
4. Type the key term, followed by the definition then the example of how you’re applying the key
term. A minimum of 5 sentences for each of the 25 examples is required for full credit.
5. Each key term should stand alone, not discussed in the same paragraph with any other key
terms. 25 key terms = 25 paragraphs.
6. Spell check your work. Points will be deducted if more than two spelling or grammatical
errors are found.
7. At the bottom of the last page of your document, reference the textbook following APA style
documentation guidelines*, exactly like this:
