XYZ hospital is planning a whole new deign for Intensive Care and Urgent Care medical
technology. Their solution will integrate the many devices and sensors in a medical suite
and network them together. The objective is to enhance performance, reduce complexity,
integrate sensor data, allow for enhanced medical processing and enable remote access to
medical experts.
Your consulting company has been requested to develop an approach to secure the
transactions and data without compromising the functionality of the system. Please
provide a white paper that represents your approach.
Requirements and Constraints
1. Numerous sensor devices (EKG, blood pressure, etc) connected via ethernet
2. There is a Data Access Unit in each space which captures the data
3. This is on a local area network at the facility with many different users and
privileges (doctors, food, admissions)
4. Access internally as well as remotely over the internet.
5. Hierarchy of privileges based on need and position (family doctor, friends, …)
6. All access to data must provide confidentiality, integrity and authentication
7. System must be capable of external audit with non-repudiation of transactions.
8. System to be built on public & internet security protocols(Kerberos, PGP, SSL,
IPSec)
9. Show a system design which identifies elements in the system, functions,
applications.
10. Show how the system keys and certificates will be developed and disseminated
11. Show an example of exchanges that would develop the security features
Your white paper should include an introduction for your customer that identifies security
services needed, threats to the system. It should explain details of your approach, its
benefits and advantages and explain how it can be accomplished.
