(see attached)Original prompt from the discussion board – This week’s discussion and Faith Integration: Is Human Resources a good term for people with a Christian Worldview to use in terms of speaking about human beings? What does Matthew 25:14-28, Galatians 3:23-29, and 1 Thessalonians 5:12-23 have to say about people as human resources? For the 2 responses – In addition, learners post a minimum of two responses to peer initial responses. The peer response should include additional research that expands upon one of key points noted in your peers initial response. I’ve never really given HR or any of this a second thought. (I’m a Communications major,
after all.) So this first question throws me a little bit – is HR a good term for people with a
Christian Worldview to use in terms of speaking about human beings? I’m sure somebody
somewhere is offended by this, but I’m not. Human beings are resources. Yes, I know,
we’re much much more than that. But in business terms (and really, in everything), humans
are a precious resource.
In the Fast Company article, one professional from Yahoo states this about HR
professionals: “We view human resources as the caretaker of the largest investment of the
company” (Fast Company Staff, 2005). That’s it, and it’s beautiful. Humans are an
investment; an amazing resource. There are natural resources, capital resources, and
human resources. From a Christian worldview, it’s a fine and fitting term
What the Matthew 25:14-28 passage says about people as human resources is that we are
expected to do something. We (humans) are expected to be resourceful; and when we are
entrusted with something, we can’t just hold on to it. We have to do something with it.
The Galatians 3:2-29 passage reminds me that we are all equals, all heirs to the throne. As a
resource in that way, we are so very precious to God.
1 Thessalonians 5:12-23 tells me that we are all here as resources on this earth, put here for
a purpose, and we all have a job to do. While here, we are to work – work hard and work
well. Our job is also to be on mission for God, encouraging one another, helping one
another, spreading His light. We’re to be productive.

The terms of Human Resources and Christianity both similarly are rooted in the best
interest and benefit of human beings. It is the Christian worldview that all people be treated
equally in a Christ-like manner. As Jesus commanded, “‘Love your neighbor as yourself’”
(Matthew 22:39, New Living Translation). Not far from the Human Resource desired outcome;
that all employees are treated equally and know they are valued. In a company, an unvalued and
unheard employee will corrupt a business, like a domino effect. Starting at the root of treating the
employees with respect and equality ensures the business runs smoothly.
Those given respect will give others the same, “Show them great respect and
wholehearted love because of their work. And live peacefully with each other” (Thessalonians
5:13, New Living Translation). From respect, prideful drive for the job will begin encouraging
more productivity. “Encourage those who are timid. Take tender care of those who are weak. Be
patient with everyone” (Thessalonians 5:14, New Living Translation). Respect for even the
smallest piece of the puzzle can make certain the whole picture is complete.
In the Christian worldview, respect must illuminate a Christ-like attitude, equally loving
others because Christ first loved us. “And all who have been united with Christ in baptism have
put on Christ, like putting on new clothes. There is no longer Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male
or female. For you are all one in Christ Jesus” (Galatians 3:27-28, New Living Translation).
Equal understanding among a company eliminates inspiration of division. “For apart from me
you can do nothing” (John 15:5, New Living Translation).
The scripture Matthew 25:14-28 relates the notable trust that companies give Human
Resource. Responsibility is entrusted by the company to ensure proper foundations are formed
for growth. “To those who use well what they are given, even more will be given, and they will
have an abundance. But from those who do nothing, even what little they have will be taken
away” (Matthew 25:29, New Living Translation).
