PORTFOLIO
ENGR 102 – SUMMER 2019
Students in Fundamentals of Engineering (FEP) courses (ENGR 100, 101, 102, 151, 191, and MAE 102)
are required to attend engineering-related events outside of their regularly scheduled class time and
reflect upon these activities to complete an over-arching goal. These Engagement events are designed
to help students gain a better understanding of their collegiate, personal, and professional
development while attending West Virginia University. At the conclusion of the semester verification
of the activities combined with a reflection paper will create the Engagement Portfolio.
The Engagement Portfolio accounts for 5% of the overall course grade in ENGR 102. In order to receive
credit, students must meet rubric requirements listed at the end of this document.
At the beginning of the semester, students must self-select a Professional goal (see suggestions
below). Throughout the semester, students must view at least 3 cumulative hours of TED videos
which directly impact their individual goal. If you are not familiar with TED, please visit their website at:
https://www.ted.com. Only official TED Talks, TED-Ed, and TEDx videos viewed through the TED website
or an official TED YouTube channel are acceptable for your Engagement Portfolio. A maximum of 12
different TED videos can be used for your Engagement Portfolio. Upon completion of viewing the TED
videos, students are required to write a reflective paper. Students must include verification of each
TED video viewed by submitting a list of links to each TED video viewed for the reflective paper. This
list should be included at the end of your reflective paper and does not count towards to length
requirements for the reflective paper (see the rubric on the following page). Email your instructor
if you have questions about an acceptable TED video relating to your professional goal.
The same TED video/reflection may not be used for multiple students/courses/sections.
Possible ENGR 102 goal (Professional) suggestions include (but are not limited to): Resume
Development; Major/Career Selection; Research Ideas/Opportunities; Study Abroad; Planning for
Graduate School; etc.
Timeline
? End of Week 1 – Declare Goal Topic to Instructor
? End of Week 3 – Introduction to Goal and at least two hour of videos viewed which directly
impact your goal
? End of Week 5 – Collegiate Engagement Portfolio deadline – submitted via TurnItIn within your
eCampus course section
