The Consent of The Governed Reflection Context:
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed (excerpted from the Declaration of Independence).
Assignment:
As I have mentioned throughout the semester, politics has changed since the 2016 election; things are different now. In this context, and utilizing the sources below, compare and contrast to what degree out government reflects “the consent of the governed,” as mentioned in the Declaration of Independence, as opposed to reflecting the interests of elites?
