Increasing Involvement of International Students in School Activities Paper I need 2 pages about why involvement is important for international student’s and how involvement on university campus’ events would increase international student’s experience. what university’s are doing or should do to increase their involvementI have one page that I wanted you to expand and add to it.. so the total would be 3 pages.. please find the 1 page attached. After spending a year and a half at Dominican University, I noticed that many
international students including myself are not participating on the events that are provided by
the University. Although, many of these events will contribute to international students’ overall
success by expanding their social networking which might lead to unexpected job or internship
opportunities. Unfortunately, most of the international students are not truly being culturally
integrated with other students. One of the interviewees said “I avoid going to these events
because sometimes I feel like I am an outsider. I am afraid of being judged, not being expected.”
This is the opposite of the controversy with civility. According to the Social change Model of
leadership development “The goal of Controversy with Civility is to create a group culture in
which people feel safe and supported to share and explore divers perspectives”
There are many advantages to students’ engagements. One of the main advantages would
be developing their communication skills and increasin their networking opportunities which
will help enhancing their positive behaviors and create a sense of belonging in their academic
journey. It also helps shaping one’s work ethics by participating and collaborating with other
members. The rewards go beyond grads and are not necessarily monetary related, they are deeper
and hopefully more beneficial to one’s own self before anyone else and that includes expanding
knowledge, experiences and that would ultimately lead to joy.
This project is aiming to create a positive change which is according to the Social Change
Model of leadership development, creating “ a better world and a better society for self and
others” The main goal is to increase international students’ engagement and try to understand the
motives and discouragement that affect their involvement in extracellular activities at campus.
Currently, there are seventy-nine international students t at Dominican University, majorly from
China, Mexico, Saudi Arabia and Poland.
