Black people are not all good and white are not all bad.

These stories are about romantic and family love and struggle, and it’s about a woman with

Baldwin is highlighting the black experience in NY with characters who many consider are far
from living a preferred life.
Though the majority are determined by their surroundings, there are few who see the bigger
picture in the smaller details – the disrupters.
It’s brave to revolt against the society.
The book is about the ridiculous unfairness that can happen to one person just because of his
race. But meanwhile Baldwin is trying to tell us that there’s no difference to any race with love.
Tish she has funny and direct way of describing the whole story.
The idea of wanting to get out but being held down/back.
How the birth of a child can divide two families that are supposed to be supporting each other.
