NVCC Buddhist and Hindu temples Structure comparison This is discussion for class 105 like the last week u did for me 🙂 Purpose
The purpose of this discussion board is to understand the differences and similarities
between the two types of Buddhist and Hindu temples, learn some of the specific terms
pertaining to each, and recognize some of the sculpture and iconography used on each
type.
Directions:
1. Read about the Buddhist Great Stupa at Sanchi, India on page 15 of your textbook, fig. 17, then about the northern style Hindu temple, Vishvanatha at Khajuraho, on page 24, fig.
1-23. Then click on the links below to further explore these temple types:

Write a three-paragraph minimum comparison of these structures, while considering the
following aspects:
a. How a visitor to these temples interacts with the architecture, in both exterior and
interior spaces.
b. Use these terms in your discussion: relics,
circumambulation, yakshi, shikhara, and mithuna.
c. How are these temples decorated? Give an example sculpture (from your textbook) for
each.
2. Respond to a classmate’s post (at least one paragraph). Point out something in their
comparison that you may have missed in yours, and check to see that they’ve used the
terms above correctly.
