Proposal Peer Review
Email your proposal rough draft to each of your group members and also me. These rough
draft emails should all be completed by the start of class on Tuesday March 5th.
You should use this handout to email back your peer review notes to your classmates by
the end of the day on Tuesday March 5th. (The ideal time to complete these is during your
regularly scheduled class time.)
Format:
1. Is the paper presented in memo format, as requested in the assignment?
2. Does the proposal have the 3 required main sections and are they clearly labeled or
easily distinguishable from one another?
Content:
3. Introduction: Does this section clearly identify the subject (and state the specific
question driving the research?), the writer’s goals, and plans for the organization of the
paper? Is there a rough thesis here? Is this an argumentative & academic approach?
Indicate what you think is the primary question of the essay and also the rough thesis if
there is one.
4. Areas to be Studied: Does this section summarize the major divisions of the paper
(such as historical background, conflicting perspectives on an issue, subclaims and
support for the primary claim or proposition in the paper)? Is this section grouped by
questions the reader wants to answer and by the order they will probably cover them in
the forthcoming paper?
5. Methods of Research: Does this section explain where and what kinds of research the
student plans to continue to do (accessing major databases such as MountainLynx,
EBSCOhost, Lexis-Nexis ); visits to the term paper clinic or reference library, etc.?? Does
this section also include a list of possible sources that may be used?
6. Grammar, etc.: Are there any grammar issues that need to be worked on? Unclear
passages? Typos? Awkward phrases? Indicate these as they occur in the essay.
