Please start by navigating to the HOLC map for Los Angeles and exploring the neighborhoods. You will be able to see the color designations for each neighborhood, and when you click on a neighborhood, you will see some information pop up in a window. Please click “Show Full” or “Show Scan” to see the full report for that neighborhood.

After exploring the HOLC map, please pick TWO neighborhoods and read their reports in full. Please try to pick at least one RED neighborhood, and one neighborhood of a different color designation.

1. Compare and contrast the reports for the two neighborhoods you looked at. Be sure to identify the neighborhoods (including the letter and number from the Mapping Inequality site). As part of your discussion, please address:

   • The major differences between the RED neighborhood and the other neighborhood you chose
   • If minorities are discussed in one or both of your reports, please discuss the language used and what that tells you about the perspective of the government/agent making the report

2. Discuss how seeing the maps and reports adds to your understanding of the practice of redlining and its impact
