The Most Critical Pollutants
In Chapter 6: The Environment – Part I, Hite and Seitz (2016) note that pollution and global warming were an important concern of the first world conference on the environment that was held in Sweden in 1972. Principle 6 of that declaration stated that we must stop the release of pollutants and heat that cannot be effectively processed by our environment (Declaration of the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment. 1972. Chapter 11. p. 2. <https://www.ipcc.ch/apps/njlite/srex/njlite_download.php?id=6471>).
Thinking about the different types of pollutants and heat that can be effectively processed by our environment, which are the most critical to address? Identify three pollutants you consider to be the most critical to address and explain why you believe they are most important.
Review the posts of your classmates and respond to at least one other post, offering a substantive comment on that classmate’s position on the issue(s).
Below is a peer’s discussion post in which I’ll have to provide a response too.

Land pollution is one of the most critical pollutants that need to be addressed. Land can become polluted by household garbage and by industrial waste. In 2014, Americans produced about 258 million tons of solid waste, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. A little over half of the waste — 136 million tons— was gathered in landfills. Only about 34% was recycled or composted. https://www.livescience.com/22728-pollution-facts….
Identify three pollutants you consider to be the most critical to address and explain why you believe they are most important
1. Land Pollution – Addressing land pollution is paramount to our environment. Americans produced about 258 million tons of solid waste, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. A little over half of the waste — 136 million tons— was gathered in landfills. Only about 34% was recycled or composted. https://www.livescience.com/22728-pollution-facts.html.
2. Water Pollution – A super serious pollutant that enters our water ways consist of chemicals, sewage, fertilizers and pesticides. Not to mention, non-environmentally friendly plastics that cause serious desturction to our wildlife and ocean life. https://www.livescience.com/22728-pollution-facts.html.
3. Air pollution – Factories and companies burn many pollutants that get trapped in our atmosphere and not only harm humans but are a huge contributor to a depletion in the ozone layer of our atmosphere. https://www.livescience.com/22728-pollution-facts.html.
