There are many programs I would implement to help law enforcement and forensic scientists to effectively coordinate investigative processes involving forensic support, psychological profiling, and traditional investigative activities. Here are a few I would immediately start with.
I would start first with forensic science research and development. Through this program a team would be able to effectively facilitate training, improve laboratory efficiency, and alleviate reduce backlogs (NIJ). The second program I would implement is quality assurance. The program would guide the process to improve quality and the overall practice of forensic science through critical thinking, experimental solutions, support research, evaluations, technology, and information exchange (NIJ). Through the research, development, testing, and evaluation process, a team can give better assistance to crime laboratories and law enforcement agencies. This will increase their capacity to process high-volume cases and give training when needed in new technologies (NIJ).

The benefits of improving and regulating the forensic science disciplines are clear: assisting law enforcement officials, enhancing homeland security, and reducing the risk of wrongful conviction and exoneration. Strengthening Forensic Science in the United States gives a full account of what is needed to advance the forensic science disciplines, including upgrading of systems and organizational structures, better training, widespread adoption of uniform and enforceable best practices, and mandatory certification and accreditation programs(https://www.nap.edu/).
The National Institute of Forensic Science should encourage research programs on human observer bias and sources of human error in forensic examinations, the programs would help determine the effects of contextual bias in forensic practice. Improve the scientific bases of forensic science examinations and to maximize independence from autonomy within the law enforcement community. Also want to make sure that the research is able to address issues such as accuracy, reliability and validity in the forensic science disciplines.
