Choose one of the following and write a 300-500 word essay in which you answer ONE of the questions:

Do you think it is necessary to believe in religion or a higher power to be an ethical person? Why or why not? Is the existence of a God (or gods) necessary for people to have a reason or motive to behave ethically? Explain.

– OR –

John and Mary are discussing ethical issues. John says, “Killing animals for sport is wrong.” Mary replies, “I disagree. I think there is nothing wrong with hunting, as long as it is done in a humane way.” Explain how an ethical relativist would understand this conversation. Why would the relativist not see the two as actually disagreeing? What is you view on ethical relativism? Explain.
