Geography 100 Summer Session 2020 – Assignment 2 – “One way to make the world a better place”
What is Assignment 2?
Assignment 2 involves creating a short verbal presentation (video or audio) where you describe one idea that could be presented at a global forum like the UN. This one idea will make the world a better place.
What am I supposed to learn from doing this assignment?
This assignment responds in particular to two of the course learning outcomes:
- • Learning Outcome 2:
Recommend strategies for the world’s peoples to move closer towards environmental, economic, and social-cultural sustainability (Recommend means: solve problems).
- • Learning Outcome 7:
Reflect on your role as a global citizen. (Reflect means: Think deeply or carefully about).
How do I do this assignment?
Using information gained in this course, consider important geographic issues in your own country .(political, economic, social-cultural or environmental), and create a 5-7 minute video or audio segment in which you propose one good idea that your country will start doing to play a part in helping move the world’s peoples closer to environmental, economic, and or social-cultural sustainability). You can play the part of a citizen of your country, or the leader of your country, whichever you like.
Instructions:
1. Use materials from the course textbook and course website as well as your own knowledge to understand some of the important issues in the world today, and choose one of those.
2. Do some research to understand how that issue could be better addressed by countries
- 3. Create a script that you can read, that covers the following five topics: a. What is the issue and why is it a problem?
- b. What is your idea, and why did you choose it?
- c. How will your idea help the world?
- d. What are some of the next steps in beginning to implement this idea?
- 4. Find a media platform to create a video or audio segment (your phone, Zoom, or anything else)
- 5. Record your video or audio segment
- 6. Upload the segment to the course website drop box by the due date. a. What is the issue and why is it a problem?
- b. What is your idea, and why did you choose it?
- c. How will your idea help the world?
- d. What are some of the next steps in beginning to implement this idea?
- e. Video is at least 5 minutes long, and I am able to hear/understand you
How will this assignment be graded?
This assignment is worth 15% of your overall mark. I am not marking based on quality of your audio/video performance, I am interested in your ideas. The assignment is out of 25, with 5 points maximum for each of the categories below:
