I think we can all agree here that there are many hot topics that are touched on in the Preface of this text. I don’t know if its just how controversial it was at the time (and still is to be honest) or if it was just the shock of Trump winning the 2016 election, but I remember exactly where I was and who I was with. It was unbelievable when the polls were in. I had many gay friends who were in tears, and many other dem friends who were just enraged.

I have personally never identified with either party. To be honest, it stresses me out thinking about arguing with someone over opinions. Everyone is entitled to their own and that’s fine, and I honestly don’t think I even understand enough about politics myself to make valid points. I have always just thought that if you are a good person, that is good enough for me! I would also like to make a point to all of us who don’t like discussing politics; ” Over the several decades I had been analyzing politics, there were a number of shocking shifts.” (West, pg. 3) While it might make us uncomfortable and it might not be our favorite things to discuss, it is extremely important, as it is a part of important history that has shaped who we are as a nation today. All of the things we fight for, like equality, are things that directly involve politics.
