Hum105: (Only looking for someone who’s read The Art of Loving by Erich Fromm and has seen Always Be My Maybe)

I’m working on a English question and need guidance to help me study.

The Situation: For this assignment, imagine that you are writing a letter or longer email to a family member or a friend catching them up with what you are learning about in Humanities 105 in terms of concepts of love. Make sure that you describe some of the key concepts from Fromm’s The Art of Loving and make clear connections to characters, scenes, or aspects of the plot in Always Be My Maybe.

The Purpose: We’ve been thinking about love a lot in this class. Fromm’s ideas about love connect to how your relationship with your parents, your relationship with your romantic interest, and your sense of self all inform love in your life. In the film Always Be My Maybe there are lots of ways to connect Fromm’s ideas to Wong’s film. There are two purposes in this assignment 1) show that you understand some key points about Fromm’s argument and 2) show that you can apply these ideas to an example from a work of popular culture, the film Always Be My Maybe or another film of your choice.

The Details: Your assignment should use well-chosen quotes from The Art of Loving. Cite the page numbers of any quotations and make sure the quotes are in “quotation marks.” You should plan to include specific references to the film Always Be My Maybe or the alternate film you chose too. Unlike some of the other essays we are writing in class, this assignment is designed to be a “think on your feet” assignment. Plan to sit yourself down in a quiet place and write out your answer taking no more than two hours to do so. Your assignment should be approximately 3 full Times New Roman double-spaced pages in length. Make sure to use lots of specific evidence like quotes and specific summaries of things that you are connecting to Fromm’s text. And use relevant info from Fromm’s text.
