This OPTIONAL writing assignment is intended to produce an interesting and informative “out-of-class” experience. For the assignment, you will choose either of the following out-of-class experiences. Watch or research the experience of your choice and then write a (750 – 1,000 word) summary paper in which you provide a summary of your experience and then connect it to concepts or topics in class. Sources other than notes should be cited and referenced at the end of the paper. Once completed, save your paper as a file on your computer and then upload your paper below using the “Browse My Computer” button.
DUE DATE: FRIDAY, May 1
CHOOSE ONE OF THE FOLLOWING OPTIONS:
Option 1: The Case Study
Identify a current (not past) example of a white-collar crime and write a brief case study of it. A successful case study should include an introduction and description of the alleged or implied crime, an identification of the key actors and agencies involved in the commission, investigation, enforcement and prosecution (if it has reached that point) of the crime, and your assessment of the case. The assessment should include your analysis of what was worked right and what has not, what you have learned about white-collar crime from this case, and how learning about this case may impact your future educational and/or career goals.
Option 2: White-Collar Crime in Film
Watch a film that is based on white-collar criminal activities. Much like the assignment in option 1, write a summary and reaction to a white-collar crime or crimes as presented in the film. A successful paper will include an introduction and description of the alleged or implied crime, an identification of the key actors and agencies involved in the commission, investigation, enforcement and prosecution (if it has reached that point) of the crime, and your assessment of the crime and the film. The assessment should include your analysis of what was worked right and what has not, what you have learned about white-collar crime from this case, and how learning about this case may impact your future educational and/or career goals.
