In this case, the person that is commissioning you to create a work of musical art is giving you the freedom to choose between an opera or a symphony. First of all, make your decision: what would you do? Then explain what factors influenced your decision. For example:

• Do you prefer to write strictly for instruments and not include text/vocal music?
• Do you find opera more interesting because you get to include the visual component of stage settings, costumes, etc?
