Make no mistake; the ability to work effectively in groups and teams is an essential skill in the modern workplace. All of us at some point will be called upon to work on a team. In this first week of the course, we begin to explore what defines a team and we start learning about some of the skills needed to effectively work on a team. In particular, we learn about the critical role communication plays in team performance.

Think about a situation in which you had to work with others in any type of setting. What was the situation? Would you consider your situation a group or a team? How would you know the difference? How did you communicate with the people you were working with? How effective was that communication? What strategies outlined in this week’s materials were displayed? What elements of effective communication were missing?
