Stage one: Essay Proposal (Due in 5 Days)

It will be 300 – 500 words in length, will contain a provisional thesis statement, four annotated sources (a sentence or two for each, not included in the overall word count), and an outline of your argument.

Stage Two: Final Essay (Due Before Aug 1st)

Students will individually write an essay that critically analyzes working-class representation in an instance of media/popular culture, including but not limited to narrative or documentary film, narrative television, news television, radio programs or graphic novels. Essays will focus on these depictions rather than theorizing media representation as a whole. Essays will draw upon at least one course reading and utilize four or more academic sources. 1500 – 2000 words in length, employing a proper citation method (in text or footnotes) and bibliography.
