History of Race in Sports

I don’t understand this History question and need help to study.

I would like you to answer the following three questions. Your overall, cumulative word count should fall within the 1200-1800 word range, so that you are writing between 400 and 600 words for each question. You may write more on some questions, and less on others. In each case, you should still have a thesis and an argument that is supported from citations from the texts.

1. Compare and contrast the lives and careers of Althea Gibson and Billie Jean King. To what extent do their experiences validate the idea of women as having a common battle against sexism? To what extent do their lives suggest this frame is inadequate? Do you find one perspective more compelling? Why or why not? What does the life of each have to teach us about the wider struggle waged against gender discrimination in sport?
2. Find a current example of gender discrimination in sport. You can look inside the US or outside. You may track youth sports, college athletics, or the pros. You can choose any sport. How does gender function within your example? Is struggle taking place? What arguments are used to defend or attack the status quo? As you will be providing your own example, please give us sufficient footnotes to assess your information. Feel free to use journalistic sources (ie, websites), but not encyclopedic ones (ie, Wikipedia). Originality and depth of insight will form part of our evaluative rubric.
3. As discussed in lecture, histories of “race” often focus on the lives on men of color, while histories of “gender” often focus on the experiences of white women. As a result, women of color often fall out of the equation. Need this be the case? Compare and contrast the categories of gender and race in terms of sport. What similarities do these analytic categories show? What differences? What happens when we combine them?
