ENGL 427 – Pairing YAL and the Classics in the Language Arts Classroom

I need help with a English question. All explanations and answers will be used to help me learn.

For this assignment you will research (and document) methods and reasons for using YAL as a compliment to the classics. This paper should be compiled in two parts.

Part 1 is the research portion of the paper comprised of 2-3 pages analyzing and discussing the pedagogical validity of using Young Adult Literature (YAL) as a compliment to the classics. You will need to read and cite at least 5 peer reviewed articles related to the topic.

Part 2 (1-2 pages) is the practical application portion of the project. For this portion of the assignment you will choose 1 “classic” work of literature and 3-5 YAL works to pair with it. You will need to include a two to three sentence explanation about how each novel relates to the classic. Once you have chosen (and I have approved) your classic work, you will incorporate reading, writing, speaking, listening and viewing activities to demonstrate how to bridge your YA books with that classic novel to a specific grade level group.
