Skinner discussed environmental control of behavior. Apply that concept to today’s culture of social media, such as the Internet, You Tube, camera crime prevention, and tweeting. Do our behaviors change because of this type of environmental control? Explain.Please site 1 reference.

After reading an article by Geir Overskeid (n.d.) “Do we Need the Environment to explain Operant Behavior?” (retrieved from https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5870395/), stated the way operant conditioning human behavior is Continuously shaped and maintained by its consequences and understanding the process is important to most fields of psychology and neuroscience. Research has shown that Skinnerian tradition, who tend to agree that the causes of behavior can be found exclusively in the environment. I believe this when it comes to social media. Some people, especially those who are addicted to the Internet, makes part of their lifestyle and decisions based off what others do and say. The individuals that are being followed, are the ones thats has many likes and views that gives them a platform. Anything these same individuals do or say, the followers will believe and go by, because of the monkey see monkey do game that is connected to this addiction.

So, if Skinner’s theories are correct, where does the ingrained biological responses, without the influence of external influences, transition into reinforcement credentials of reward? A baby cries for attention to a need, and under repetition of the reinforcements, the same conduct is displayed in hopes of a similar, positive response from the attendant (Cervon and Pervin, 2010). When does the cause and effect actually take place? So to say that our instinctive organisms preempt that of our cognitive abilities, in an attempt to survive the initial dependent stages that last throughout early infancy, is a critical statement to survival and that of a continued behavioral learning process that is built and messaged upon for future use? But how does the underdeveloped infant’s mind navigate that concept without conscious thought processes that inevitably leads to a definable end? Consider for a baby’s cry to solicit attention, does not mean that the response received will be positive. It could call the attention of a wild animal, if unattended. Does instinct tell the child to cease the behavior even at its own peril, or does it’s lack of treat (to the predator) giving the prey a pass (as W. Disney films like to depict in their films). Is this a natural occurrence in realm of animalistist instinct? I don’t believe so. Easy prey is a win-win in the the wild, where nurturing and close observation and territorial environment is at most, the early stages of “most” creatures” continued existence.
