I’m studying and need help with a History question to help me learn.
Many historians have described the 1950s as an era of conformity, old-school morality, and traditional values, and the 1960s as an era of liberation, sexual revolution, and challenges to the normative society.
However, historian Alan Petigny, in his book Permissive Society, argued that in fact the entire period between 1941-1970s marked an era of liberalization in American society, saying that Americans were becoming increasingly tolerant, open-minded, permissive, and sexually and culturally adventurous.
Based on the evidence of our textbook this far, what evidence do you find to support his argument? Please list why you think Petigny came to his conclusions.
