Read the assigned article on Crime and Security in Agricultural Operations. Then write a comprehensive essay which discusses a rural or agricultural area near where you live or work. Document all of your sources at the end of the essay.

The following elements should be included in your essay:

• Your discussion should identify the major crime and security concerns in your chosen rural/agricultural area.

• Incorporate a general discussion of the importance of studying rural/agricultural crime in the context of the criminal justice field.
• Research and discuss the concept of “defensible space.” Provide an evidence-based explanation of the concept and analyze if defensible space could work for would-be offenders and/or for those avoiding or attempting to thwart criminal activity in your identified area.
• Discuss the theories associated with “hot spot” policing. Evaluate whether “hot spot” policing is a viable technique to reduce crime and discuss whether police perceptions of “hot spots” align with actual “hot spot” locations as identified by predictive algorithms. Does this concept apply to your topic area? Why or why not?
