American Literature Essay (ASU) 500 words
I don’t understand this English question and need help to study.
Dear American Lit Aficionado,
As you read the question (Question #1) and answer the question for Essay Response #2, be sure to note, “As you discuss, writing about all three works, do not be afraid to agree or disagree with the statements made by three authors.” So that’s three works and three authors–not one. Sometimes in haste one overlooks these things. I look forward to reading your essay!
INSTRUCTIONS:
Be sure to employ a thesis with supporting evidence from the text itself. You may paraphrase from the text and also quote from the text. I very much prefer you do not use outside sources to indicate what critics have said; instead, discuss the works giving your thoughts and your opinion . When you quote from the text in our anthology, you do not need to give the page number. Double-space your essay, use Times New Roman or Arial font, size 12. Attach your essay, written in Word, and email me your essay using the course email by the due date. That’s enough instructions!

Reading “What is an American?” by de Crèvecoeur, Douglass’s “What to the Slave is the Fourth of July?” and “A Narrative of the Captivity” by Rowlandson, we get a sense of what it means to be an American as we encounter different experiences and also see different opinions expressed about being an American and living with others on this vast continent. Discuss what it means, in your opinion, to be an American. As you discuss, writing about all three works, do not be afraid to agree and/or disagree with the statements made by three authors.
