In recent years most of you have probably heard about college students killed as a result of hazing. In my forthcoming book on critical issues in sport and society, I argue that hazing begins the moment a power dynamic is introduced to a relationship. These can begin at a micro level, where the people involved might not even realize they have given a senior or superior member of a group the power in the relationship. As a result, over time, the events can become much more obvious as hazing. What might be examples of micro-aggressive hazing (hazing that goes unnoticed but initiates a power dynamic that leads to hazing)? How might you argue that giving a new member an alcoholic beverage is micro-aggressive hazing? Be sure to review the rubric and use examples from class lecture and the reading.
