Topic: St. Augustine: Lightner House Visit Speech Outline
General Purpose: Provide insights on an exquisite experience in an identified historic city filled
with paranormal activity and real historic discoveries.
Specific Purpose: To inform listeners about how it is a fascinating historic attraction and to urge
the audience to pay a visit during the holiday season.
Thesis: All around the world there are spectacular historical buildings created with beautiful
intricate architecture that remain epic due to their unique artistic nature in appreciation of ancient
art. In this regard St. Augustine, Florida and its diverse history is one of such antiques with art
reverence(DeWire; Hernández, Andrei, and Svetlana 35-47). Among American’s the haunted old
city itself still holds much significance to date as a cultural artifact and historical reverence in
consideration of its location.
Introduction
A. Attention-getter: The Lightner Museum has attracted extensive research for thousands of
years, many people have still been studying A Look Back: Haunted History at St. Augustine
Lighthouse how the reported paranormal activities occurred since the monument was built
(2014). The assignment of visiting a museum exhibit I would say came at the opportune
time; it could not have come in a better time than this as it has always been on my wish
list. Specifically, it is fascinating since I have always wanted to make a visit to ancient
history through arts and in particular a visit to the Lightner Museum.
B. Personal credibility: The most astonishing collection of collections I have ever seen. You
have to visit this Museum if only to imagine what it would of been like to stay here when
it was a high quality hotel. Where the colossal indoor swimming pool once stood is now
an amazing eateries & the arcade of Antique shops are fantastic for any Holliday gifts.
C. According to Elizabeth, Norma, and Bruce (2015) the exquisite experience is largely
fascinating on the viewership of the building that’s the star attraction. In each “room” of
the building, you’ll find photos from the early 1900’s of what it looked like in it’s heyday
as a hotel (Graham 1-17). There’s the steam room, exercise room, smoking lounge – and
what was claimed to be the “world’s largest indoor saltwater swimming pool” – that is now
where the shops are on the lower level.
D. Thesis: By the end of Museum Exhibit I would say it was quite an experience to have a
feel of the power of art. What I draw from this expedition is that art has the capability to
take us through times and understand different cultures and significance of the art works.
Going through the art pieces of the statue and in reference to the extensive research, it
allows one to view it from different perspective.
Transition: Let us now learn about the significance of the old city.
Body
A. Exigency: Quite a magical experience especially taking a view from the top floor, with a
rousingly black polished paint and glass ceiling which opens a fascinating view of the stars
during classical events and dances in the hotel (Randall). There’s just something magical
about the building itself and a beautiful inner courtyard where weddings are often held.
You cannot afford to miss. The experience comes with a lot of fun.
1. Without doubt, the tour guide displayed commitment to her responsibility as a museum
staff in sharing the history of the Lightner Museum and managed to keep the paranormal
activities with authenticity. This is very important to any tourists in hearing true stories.
Interestingly, I learnt that the site age goes to about 300 years with narration of stories and
Dark of the Moon is seen as the specialty for all tours (Wilson III, Col, and Maj Lee).
2. Extensively, sharing a moment that we almost tripped off after the guide narrated of her
experience in the lighthouse complex that were largely strange yet she is not a ghost hunter.
One experience that lingers in her mind while walking through the complex is viewing a
shadowy figure in the tower and furniture moving around.
Transition: To some extent, I hope the speech will powerful and persuasive. I will surely organize
information to create a rhetoric situation, to achieve persuasive power and connect with the
audience to deliver the intended objective.
Conclusion
I can therefore appreciate art precedence going forward in regards to the development of modern
art. At the end of it all I cannot fail to appreciate the incredible chance to visit the museum with
the immense support from the institution. The art exhibition has enabled me to go through the
natural history section of the museum especially with the gained interest of ancient art.
The experience is worth the dime and what’s important is how it manages to keep people interested
to historical narratives, art and monuments.
