1. Critical appreciation of techniques for analysing complex business issues and techniques for
structuring solutions to complex issues.
2 Critically analyse and research complex business problems, Select and successfully apply a range of
appropriate techniques to identify issues and develop integrated solutions, Self-reflect on your
progress with the project and lessons learnt for future development.
What am I required to do in this assignment?
You will produce a reflective account that critically evaluates your capabilities at managing the process of producing the Project and reflects
upon your development during the MBA and future needs as a practitioner based on your learning during the Project.
You are free to use your creativity and imagination in this regard. However, below are some guidelines for reflection on your MBA ‘journey’.
This is an opportunity to think back on your learning experience and self-evaluate in terms of strengths and weaknesses. There is no
prescription of format or content, but the following might help.
Ask questions such as:
•
What have I learnt?
•
What could I do to improve and how?
Learning theory can be helpful in providing a framework of analysis.
Consider, for example, Kolb’s Learning Cycle – experiential learning theory, 1984 and Rolfe et al’s Reflective Cycle, 2001 – What? So, what?
Now what? Having undertaken the reflection/self-evaluation think about providing a personal development plan which includes realistic
goals and time lines and aids the monitoring of progress.
Reflection and self-evaluation are the key – supported by learning theory. Avoid description
What do I need to do to pass? (Threshold Expectations from UIF)

2 Critically analyse and research complex business problems, Select and successfully apply a range of
appropriate techniques to identify issues and develop integrated solutions, Self-reflect on your
progress with the project and lessons learnt for future development.
What am I required to do in this assignment?
By this point you will have submitted and received formative feedback on your developing research investigation during what is termed
IMP1.
Now you will produce a report that:
Identifies an issue or problem in your own organisation (another organisation is acceptable only in exceptional circumstances. Seek approval
from the Unit Coordinator) that has multiple and varied approaches to its resolution. This should be a current or impending but not a past
issue. You will identify and integrate a range of theories and techniques drawn from multiple appropriate disciplines from your MBA in the
creation of appropriate solutions.
Once you have framed the problem you will identify and discuss relevant theories, models and paradigms related to the problem. Make
sure that you look at the problem from different points of view and relate them to your learning from as many different units of the MBA.
For example:
• People – LMP, LP, MCI – how does your problem/ solution impact on the team & company? Performance, leadership, managing
creativity/innovation etc.
• Financial aspect – AfL – How will your solution improve/ impact positively on the financial aspect of the company?
• Marketing – How does your problem/solution impact on the marketing dimension?
• Strategy – From the Strategy unit (Business Strategy) and from TCGC (locating your problem / organisation within the wider
context of global business/ sector – macro-environmental impact – PESTEL, etc.)
• Operations Management – How does the problem/solution impact on the supply chain, procurement and operational
management issues?
• Project management – Consider the models for managing change and other project management theories or models. Can any of
these be applied to your problem area? You may use the soft and hard systems approach within this context. Is there any other
approach that would be appropriate? If so, present it (with appropriate referencing) and explain how and why it is more suitable to
the task at hand.
This is not an exhaustive list and you may want to broaden the range of theories as you see fit. You will also want to be selective in the
approach you adopt, justifying the selection methodologically. It is important to use an integrated approach rather than look at each
dimension on its own.
Having done this, which will be roughly half of your word count, You will need to produce a critical review of the literature where you will
locate your work, discussing its broader contribution and demonstrating its distinctiveness. You will do this by critically evaluating the
concepts, theories, models, etc., used and extending this to identify and review the wider body of knowledge and latest research in the
field.
What do I need to do to pass? (Threshold Expectations from UIF)
In order to pass the Assessment you will need to:
•
•
Identify an appropriate problem capable of being researched, select and apply appropriate integrated techniques in order to
evaluate the issue and identify and propose
Critically evaluate, to a limited extent, the tools, frameworks and theories from a wide range of disciplines that were used.
How do I produce high quality work that merits a good grade?
Produce a piece of research rather than a review or commentary. Identify and articulate a clear problem to be addressed and evaluate
that problem with a clear and justified integrated approach. Demonstrate the distinct contribution made by the work and its place in the
existing knowledge. Present an analytical discussion which is evidenced thoroughly using academic and professional sources. Draw
interesting and useful conclusions.

THE INTEGRATED MANAGEMENT PROJECT

The Integrated Management Project (IMP)
Executive Summary
Increased computer technology advancements, telecommunication, and more networking
applications have accelerated the development of Airport Industries. The flow of information is
boosted in the following respect: customers gain access to the business through a wide range of
technical means. Employees dealing with customers are able to understand the customer’s desires
based on demands entirely. They are also better equipped to handle vertical and horizontal
marketing as well as record information from their sales made. Users of the systems can access
customer information any time from any place, and use this information in analyzing marketing
activities. The systems can provide necessary data regarding cost, productivity, risk, and profit,
in a multidimensional manner, which allows the business to analyze customer preference
concerning location, product desired, or other functions. Update of Management concept: staying
ahead of the competition requires a company to remain at the cutting age of technology.
Evolution in science and technology also creates the following change in the marketing
environment. The update of management infers that the process has completed the product, sales,
profit, marketing, and customer oriented periods.
OAMC is a government-owned organization involved with the running of two airports,
Salalah and Muscat. It manages facilities, customer services, capacity, marketing, and
communications and also provides aid in the control of finances and revenue collection.
According to the IMP1 proposal for management, due to the rapid increase of passengers, which
seems to overwhelm the existing capabilities and capacity of the two airports, there is a need to
expand the two airports, Salalah and Muscat. However, with the expansion of the airport
terminal, there has been a rise in a number of problems. It is, therefore, becoming problematic

for the management company to keep up with the rising numbers that may result in reduced
customer satisfaction through the change of routes, reduced frequency of service among other
side effects.
Oman Airports Management Company
Introduction
Air transport has excellent advantages to the world due to increased economies,
convenient and fast mode of transportation. Due to its convenience, air transport has been relied
upon by individuals who have led to an increase in the number of passengers who are using air
transport. Due to this, a need for expansion of airports has risen. However, there have been
challenges such as lack of enough space for airport expansion, economic constraints, and
environmental issues. However, with proper planning and using other methods such as
technology to cope with the rising number of passengers these hurdles have been minimized and
optimal results are being acquired (Albers et al., 2017). Countries and cities around the globe
isolate by physical distance, yet people can generally travel effectively between countries while
using different modes of transport. Air travel connects individuals as well as economies to
develop a worldwide marketplace. Moreover, due to the world being a global village, traveling
has been made relatively easy and quick, which has consequently made air travel to be a
preference to many.
The term integration management refers to the process that helps organizations to manage
and coordinate all the activities and operations during a project. The procedures involve making
trade-offs between competing goals and options in order to meet the stakeholder’s expectations
and requirements. Consequently, in this case, the term refers to the synthesis of all knowledge
learned from all different units in MBA. Therefore, this essay will identify and examine a

problem in Oman Airports Management Company which is the issue of the rapid increase of
passengers, which seems to overwhelm the existing capabilities and capacity of the two airports.
The main goal of this essay is to identify the issue which OAMC is facing, especially in
resolving the issue of increase of traveling passengers. After which, it will elaborate on the
problem, theories, techniques, and tools used to identify the causes of the issue and analyze it.
Organizational Profile
Oman Airports Management is an organization owned by a government that is involved
with the running of two airports, Salalah and Muscat. It manages facilities, customer services,
capacity, marketing, and communications and also provides aid in the control of finances and
revenue collection. The company serves over 10 million passengers on an annual basis with
more than 1000 workers. The company’s success arises from its mission statement that is to offer
excellent services and develop the airport to be among the top twenty best airport industries in
the globe (Tomová, 2009). Salalah is set to get a ranking among the world’s top ten airports on
the level of more than two and a half million. Muscat, on the other hand, continues to experience
an annual average growth of 13%, which is slowly becoming unsustainable unless the company
takes adequate measures to address the issue sufficiently. The main target of the Oman Airports
is to ensure the citizens of all nations have access to their flights at any moment of the week.
Problem Statement
In this essay, it will elaborate on the central issue in Oman Airport Management
Company in relation to congestion of passengers. According to the IMP1 proposal for
management, due to the rapid increase of passengers, which seems to overwhelm the existing
capabilities and capacity of the two airports, there is a need to expand the two airports, Salalah
