Composer Research Presentation Guidelines
1. Choose a composer whose composition you are currently working on as part of
the class repertoire. Make sure to get the composer approved by the professor
before beginning your work to avoid any overlaps of the composers in the class.
2. Find information about your chosen composer from at least 3 different academic
sources (official sources like books, documentaries, etc., not Wikipedia, forums,
blogs, etc.) and cite them using MLA format – use
http://www.citationmachine.net/mla/cite-a-website or similar.
3. Please include the composer’s dates (birth/death if applicable), personal life,
notable works (minimum 3, prepare an audio clip of one or two of the works) in
addition to the work that you’re performing, background on the work that you’re
performing (date of composition, composer’s state of life at the time, any outside
influences (political climate, location of composition, other personal influences as
applicable).
4. Prepare google slides / powerpoint presentation with four or more slides. Title
page should have your name, date of the presentation, the composer’s name
and picture, the composer’s dates, etc. You may choose to bring a one page
summary of your findings in lieu of the google slides / powerpoint. If the google
slides / powerpoint’s used, it must be emailed to the instructor a day in advance.
5. The presentation should be 5-8 minutes in length. Dress nicely and speak up
while giving the presentation.
