to legislation passed by Congress and what measures does he take? How does Jackson’s actions adversely affect
the nation’s monetary system? Briefly discuss the role land speculators played in the bank war. Finally, discuss
Specie Circular and what led to the panic of 1837.

When did the slave trade begin in the United States and what propelled it? Briefly discuss slavery in other
countries in the early nineteenth century compared to the United States. How does Massachusetts contribute to
the growing slave trade? What is the Deep South and why is it important to understand the southern economy in
relation to the future of the nation? Finally, what is the basis of the proslavery argument and how is racism used
to justify slavery?
