The topic I choose is about friendship. As said in the prompt, “…humans each have one
to two special friends, five intimate friends, 15 best friends, 50 good friends, 150 “just” friends
and 500 acquaintances. Our relationships form a series of expanding circles of increasing size
and decreasing intensity and quality of the relationship.” The whole book is about the limits of
friendship and what one would do for another. It includes how strongly one feels towards the
other and how close and connected they are.
I chose this topic because I personally have been through a lot with friends and
relationships to be able to speak on it. I know what it is and what it takes to be a best friend,
just a friend, and also an acquaintance. These are different stages in different kinds of
friendships, and each type has different limits. For this topic, I will closely look into the theme of
communication and action in relationships to display how each differ and the limitations to
each.
The focus of my research will be attitude and again, communication of the types of
relationship to show the value of each relationship. Different kinds of friendships require
different amounts of focus and dedication. In this day and age, people have contrasting views
of what it means to be a “friend”. My focus is to show and explain the distinct characteristics
there are to each type of friendship and what it means to be a best friend compared to an
acquaintance.
